Day-by-Day Itinerary for the Langtang Gosaikunda trek

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1300 m)

  • You will be picked up from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), and you will be transferred to a hotel in Thamel or nearby Kathmandu.
  • Stroll around for trek briefing & last-minute gear shopping.
  • Spend an overnight in Kathmandu. 

Day 2: Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (2380m, 8 hours)

  • After a peaceful sleep in Kathmandu, you will take a bus ride early in the morning. After about 8 hours of traveling, you will arrive at Syabrubesi.
  • The drive from Kathmandu is exciting as the roads are on cliff edges and the bumps on the roads, you can imagine how it would feel. Name it an adventure ride of your life.
  • At the end of Day 2, you will stay overnight at Syabrubesi. You will enjoy the night singing and dancing with other trekkers.

Day 3: Trek to Lama Hotel (2500m, 6 hours)

  • After the early morning breakfast, you will start your trek to the Lama Hotel from Syabrubesi, covering a distance of 2500 meters (1.5 miles).
  • Today, you will cross the Bhote Koshi River over a hanging suspension bridge.
  • After walking for some time, you will reach Bamboo, where you will have lunch. You will pass several villages influenced by Tibetan culture and lifestyle while continuing the trek.
  • On the way lie several rural settlements, bamboo and birch forests, where you might spot rare, local wildlife - including the red pandas and reach the Lama Hotel.
  • You will spend the night in the Lama Hotel.  

Day 4: Trek to Langtang village (3430m, 6-7 hours) 

  • Today, you will be trekking to the beautiful Langtang village.
  • The hike from Lama Hotel to Langtang village takes you through the beautiful trails that take your breath away. At first, the trial is a little ascent later followed by a steep trial and jungles.
  • Walking further, you will cross the Langtang River and enter the colorful part of the forest, descend to the glacial moraine, and reach Langtang village.
  • On this day, you have passed numerous forests and viewed magnificent waterfalls on the Kangjala and Langtang ranges. Take your time and explore the new village.
  • You will rest for the day in Langtang Valley preparing for the next day. 

Day 5: Trek to Kyanjin Gompa from Langtang village (3860m, 4-5 hours)

  • The trek from  Langtang Valley to Kyanjin Gompa is one of the most pleasing experiences of the Gosaikunda Langtang trek.
  • Begin the 6.8 km trek to Kyanjin Gompa through scenic forests of oak, maple, rhododendron, and hemlock alongside the Langtang Khola.
  • Enjoy stunning views as snow-capped peaks like Mt.Langtang come into sight.
  • Pass Mani Walls, prayer flags, and cross streams on wooden bridges through rugged moraine and reach Kyanjin gompa.
  • Get rest for the night at a hotel in Kyanjin Gompa.

Day 6: Exploration day at Kyanjin Gompa (Hike to Tserko Ri)

  • On the sixth day of the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek Itinerary, you will take time to enjoy the beautiful views around Kyanjin Gompa.
  • Start your day with a visit to Kyanjin Gompa for the morning prayer. After having your breakfast, make your way to Langtang Valley. Then, climb to Tserko Ri (4984 m), the highest point of the Gosaikunda Lake trek.
  • This short climb offers amazing views of the snow-covered peaks. From the top, you can witness Kinshung, Yansa Tsenji, the entire Langtang range, and other impressive summits.
  • In the evening, you'll return to your hotel in Kyanjin Gompa for another night.

Day 7: Trek from Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel (2,450m, 8 hours)

  • On the Seventh Day, you will cover about 21 kilometers (13 miles) by walking. As you are familiar with the trail. You will be walking the same trek route as you did in your previous days.
  • The trail is mostly downhill, which is surprisingly long. Walk along the steps to the Lama Hotel through the beautiful forests and crossing suspension bridges. You will again pass through Langtang Village, enjoying the familiar views with a fresh perspective.
  • If you get lucky, you will be spotting red pandas on the return leg of the trek.
  • After this tiresome walk, you will be resting in these peaceful surroundings.

Day 8: Trek to Thulo Syabru (2120m, 6-7 hours )

  • After your early morning breakfast, you’ll set off to continue your journey along the Langtang and Gosaikunda Trek route from Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru.
  • The trek begins with a gentle descent to Pairo, where you’ll be crossing a peaceful river. After crossing it, the trail gradually climbs uphill toward Thulo Syabru. The serene, scenic path offers a wonderful Gosaikunda trekking route experience.
  • As you continue your trek, you’ll pass through welcoming Tamang villages, where unique homes and kind-hearted locals offer a glimpse into a rich, traditional way of life. At the same time, the breathtaking views of the Langtang Himalayas will keep you in awe.
  • Walking through the pine forests, you might get the privilege to see some of the rare birds and animals, including the red pandas.
  • You will end the day at a hotel in Thulo Syabru.

Day 9: Trek to Shin Gompa (3250m, 4-5 hours)

  • The trail starts from Thulo Syabru and ascends to Dimsa village, passing through Durdaganga and Foprang Danda (3200m), which is covered by the lush forests of rhododendron, hemlock, and oak.
  • The trail offers scenic views of Langtang Himal and Ganesh Himal.
  • A short hike from Foprang Danda leads to Shin Gompa. Shin Gompa is famous for its local cheese factory, and the Buddhist monastery at Shin Gompa is the main attraction.
  • After you stroll around Shin Gompa, embracing the cultures and uniqueness of the place, you will come back to your hotel to spend the night.

Day 10: Trek to Gosaikunda lake ( 4380m, 5-6 hours )

  • Your day will begin with a challenging uphill hike from Shin Gompa after breakfast, following a rocky and narrow trail.
  • After about 1.5 hours, you’ll reach Cholangpati, where you can enjoy Panoramic views of the beautiful mountains.
  • You’ll sum up your day at a tea house in Gosaikunda, with time to explore the serene and beautiful lakes nearby.

Day 11: Trek to Ghopte (3530m, 7 hours ) via Lauri Bina la pass (4609m)

  • After breakfast, your day begins with a peaceful walk around the majestic lake. The trail is challenging but worth all the beautiful scenery it offers, with a steep ascent over rugged moraines.
  • Along the way, you’ll encounter three small lakes and cross Lauri Bina pass (4609m).
  • From the pass, the path descends to Phedi, then leads you through rocky slopes and pine forests to Ghopte.
  • Overnight in Ghopte.

Day 12: Trek from Ghopte (3,530m) to Kutumsang (2470m) 

  • After breakfast, you’ll trek through the serene forest of junipers, rhododendrons, and pines to reach Tharepati.
  • You’ll descend gradually along a forested ridge with views of Gangchempo and Dorje Lakpa. Pass a wide meadow with old shepherd huts, then enter steeper forest trails.
  • You’ll be walking past Kuala Bhanjyang before descending to the village of Kutumsang (2470m).
  • You will be spending the night at a hotel in Kutumsang.

Day 13: Trek to Chisapani (2137m, 5-6 hours) 

  • From Kutumsang, you’ll walk uphill for a short time, then go down to Gul Bhanjyang
  • Then as you climb up to Thorang Danda,you will follow a rocky path to Chipping village.
  • After a short walk, you’ll arrive at Chisopani, renowned for its amazing mountain views.
  • Then you will rest at a hotel/lodge in Chisapani.

Day 14: Trek to Sundari jal (4 hours) and drive back to Kathmandu by local bus (2 hours)

  • After a warm breakfast, you will be walking in the last day of your trek to the Lantang Gosaikunda. The trail passes through the quiet, dense forests in Shivapuri National Park.
  • You will have the opportunity to spot some wildlife during the walk.Make sure you don’t touch or disturb them.
  • Walking further for 4-5 hours, you’ll reach Sundari Jal. From there, you can get a local or private vehicle to reach Kathmandu (1.5-2 Hours driving)
  • Conclude your last night in this beautiful country at a cosy hotel in Kathmandu. You can stroll around the city for last-minute souvenir shopping.

Day 15: Departure from Kathmandu

  • Transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) for your international flight.

Gosaikunda Langtang distance is not that long trip, so the ideal time for the trek is during spring (February to May) and autumn (September to December). During this time, the Gosaikunda weather is normally clear and the temperature is moderate. Moderate climate and pleasant weather make it one of the most favorable times to visit Gosaikunda and witness the extreme beauty of nature.

Autumn (September to November) – Best Season

  • Weather: Clear skies, pleasant air; daytime temperatures around 10°C to 18°C.
  • Scenery: Stunning mountain views with vibrant landscapes.
  • Trail Conditions: Dry and stable.

Downside: Popular time, so the trail can be busy.

Spring (March to May) – Best Season

  • Weather: Mild and stable; daytime temperatures range from 10°C to 20°C at lower elevations.
